He's the writer on Judge Dredd: Titan, Low Life, and Asylum, and Rob Williams is our guest on the latest episode of the official 2000 AD podcast.

One of the most popular new voices on Judge Dredd, Williams has not only brought a new moral dimension to the lawman of the future but has also woven a fresh supporting cast into his world, thanks to his work on Low Life and the creation of undercover Judges Aimee Nixon and Dirty Frank. Along with Al Ewing and Simon Spurrier, Williams wrote the critically-acclaimed 'stealth crossover' Trifecta and his subsequent work with Chris Weston creating the serial killer Judge Pin has readers demanding more! We talk to him about the craft of writing, learning on the job, how he balances the demands of working for both British and American comics, and his love of American Football.

A year after the launch of 2000 AD in 1977, publishers IPC decided to cash in on its success with a new stablemate - Starlord!

With longer stories, better paper, and more colour, Starlord blazed into the firmament with its own eponymous editor as well as all-new stories such as Strontium Dog, Ro-Busters, and Mind Wars! But it was not to be, and after just 22 issues it was decided to merge the title into 2000 AD - a decision that arguably saved the older title as well as giving it two of its most popular ever strips.

In a round table discussion to mark the forthcoming 40th anniversary of the launch of Starlord - as well as a special tribute in this year's Christmas Prog - 2000 AD editor Matt Smith and Treasury of British Comics editor Keith Richardson join 2000 AD PR droid Molch-R in the podcast sub-basement along with comics editor and journalist John Freeman to talk about Starlord's short existence, its impact at the time, and its on-going legacy for 2000 AD.

Colour has never been more central to comic books than it is now, though most colourists remain relatively unknown. On this episode of the Galaxy's Greatest Podcast we talk to two of 2000 AD's longest-serving colourists - Gary Caldwell and Chris Blythe.

Gary's biggest body of work for 2000 AD was on Nikolai Dante while Chris is an award-nominated colourist who regularly works on Judge Dredd as well as many other series.

They chat to host Molch-R about the process behind colouring comics, the tricks of the trade that they use that many readers may not even notice, and what it's like to work with such a wide range of artistic styles.

He's the multi-award-winning author of the Rebus crime novels who has sold more than 20 million books worldwide - and a huge comics fan. We're delighted to welcome Scottish writer Ian Rankin to The 2000 AD Thrill-Cast to talk about his passion for comics and the influence they've had on his life and work - from Rebus' very comic book-sounding name to why he wishes he'd become a science-fiction writer to how comics are the 'missing link' in childhood literacy.

Ever wanted to start reading 2000 AD but didn't know where to begin? Prog 2050 - out on 27th September - is ideal for readers new and old, with seven new stories beginning, plus the return of some old favourites!

On this episode we're delighted to welcome two new voices both to the Thrill-Cast and 2000 AD - 'Starman' writer James Robinson and 'Hellblazer' artist Leonardo Manco - to talk about their revival of classic 'Rogue Trooper' in a special episode in Prog 2050. James talks about getting rejected by 2000 AD in the '90s, his love of classic 2000 AD, and what he wanted to bring to this one-off story, and Leo (with able translation from his son, Augusto) discusses his work and the influences on his version of the blue-skinned Genetic Infantryman.

Then we welcome veteran artdroid Steve Yeowell back to the Thrill-Cast to talk about the special 30th birthday revival of 'Zenith', in a feature written by 2000 AD editor Matt Smith, what it's like updating the superbrat popstar for the 2010s, and how it feels having grown up with young Robert McDowell.

Marney the Fox is the next collection from The Treasury of British Comics imprint and on this week's podcast we take a trip into the countryside with artist John Stokes. Appearing in Buster weekly from June 1974 to September 1976, this Watership Down-style tale followed a lone fox cub’s desperate struggle to survive in a dangerous world.

Written by the late Scott Goodall, the series was lavishly illustrated by Stokes, whose remarkable career has seen him go from uncredited work on British children's weekly comics to inking Grant Morrison's The Invisibles. His story is one of changing times and a changing industry, but throughout his work has retained its old school charm and solid workmanship. In this episode, John talks about his childhood amidst the riots in pre-partition India to living on a houseboat to his parallel career creating sets for theatrical productions.

What better way to launch 2000 AD: The Ultimate Collection than with one of the all-time greatest stories from the Galaxy's Greatest Comic?

Sláine: The Horned God fundamentally changed 2000 AD and the comics industry, showcasing what could be achieved with fully painted comics and more mature storytelling, launching the career of superstar artist Simon Bisley and sparking a thousand imitators. Based on the Irish hero Cú Chulainn, the barbarian warrior Sláine mac Roth unites the tribes of the Earth goddess but discovers that there is more to ruling than battles and feasting. With its dense, lush artwork, complex characters, Irish mythology and epic storyline, The Horned God is the very definition of a classic.

The official 2000 AD podcast talks to Pat and Simon about how the series came to be, the emotional beats that sound throughout the story, the evolution of Simon's style, and the way the two of them worked together - plus a little sneak peek of their new project together!

This episode is the perfect complement to 2000 AD: The Ultimate Collection from Hachette Partworks, which launches this week with the first of 80 volumes dedicated to reprinting the best 2000 AD has to offer.
